The most common thing we hear about Listen to Your Mother Twin Cities is, “I could never do THAT!”
THAT, being getting up onto the Riverview stage in front of 700 people to tell your story.
And we’re here, of course, to debunk that.
To do so, we want to tell you a ‘lil story today about the only two kinds of women that we’re looking for for LTYM auditions.
And yes, there really are only two.
This is a story in photos.
// Number 1 //
This first photo is of my daughter, Chloe, and Mandy, her 5th grade teacher.
Chloe loooovvveeedddd Mandy to the moon + back -- it was one of those magical teacher-kid-family fits that make you grateful and happy and confident sending your child off to school everyday.
Anyway, one day -- during LTYM audition season -- Mandy texted me about auditioning.
"Wait, what?" I thought, “How did you even know about LTYM?!”
Well as it turned out, unbeknownst to me, Chloe had encouraged Mandy to write + tell her story.
And even though she was a young step-mom parenting day-to-day on her own most of the time (her then fiancee, now husband, was a professional basketball player who was traveling the bulk of the year); and a teacher; and in grad school; and had never done anything like this before; she did.
Just look at the progression of photos here -- from my girl understanding that everyone has a story to tell and that women who support + encourage women are EVERYTHING to ...
// Number 2 //
… Mandy taking a chance on HERSELF.
// Number 3 //
… To Mandy taking a risk and telling her heart-story.
// Number 4 //
… To Mandy getting on that stage.
// Number 5 //
… To Mandy’s cast loving her up to the moon and back, just like Chloe knew that they — and the rest of the 2017 audience — would.
THAT'S what Listen to Your Mother is ALL about.
Auditions are coming up.
Either be like Mandy and go for it, or be like Chloe and encourage another woman to do so.
