Below is a little bit about the history, story, and pure joy of RED BALLOON BOOKSHOP, written by its owner!
Red Balloon has been connecting children, teens, and adults in the Twin Cities area with great books and great authors for 40 years. Carol Erdahl and Michele Cromer-Poire opened Red Balloon Bookshop in 1984, just four doors to the east of our current location.
When they were looking for a name, someone suggested “Red Balloon,” and the imaginative french film with the flying balloon had just the right appeal.
By 1989, the business had expanded and needed a new space, so Carol & Michele created a new building and moved the bookshop to its current location. Thanks to a series of very fortunate events, Holly Weinkauf became the new owner of Red Balloon in August 2011 when Carol and Michele retired.
Red Balloon continues to inspire children and adults with a great selection of books, toys, and gifts, through author and illustrator events, and by offering a fun and exciting place to connect with other readers and book-lovers.
Because of their love of reading and fun, Red Balloon Bookshop is dedicated to serving our community with books, gifts and events that inspire, inform and entertain, helping children of all ages – and adults! – live imaginative and rich lives.

Bundtinis®, the brand’s cupcake-sized Bundt Cakes.
Local owner and operator, Kim Cassens, opened her first Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise location in Minnetonka, Minnesota in 2015. While she operates a franchise, it is also a family business.
After years of valuable industry experience and a profitable single store operation, Cassens expanded her operation to multi-unit franchise ownership in 2023.
Kim hired her middle son and business partner Joe Cassens to the leadership team, and together their network of stores operates under the business entity Sweet Cakes, LLC.
Currently, Sweet Cakes LLC owns and operates five Nothing Bundt Cakes locations.
Miniature Bundtlets!
Their family-owned Minnesota network includes Nothing Bundt Cakes stores in Minnetonka, Eden Prairie, Eagan, Prior Lake – Savage and at Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Their local bakeries Bring the Joy™ by offering handcrafted Bundt Cakes for pickup or delivery in a variety of flavors and sizes, such as Bundtinis®, the brand’s cupcake-sized Bundt Cakes, miniature Bundtlets and 8- and 10-inch Bundt Cakes, plus decorations and gift options for life’s “just because” moments and special celebrations.
Their network of stores highlights outstandingly delicious cakes, exceptional customer service and philanthropic involvement with the communities in which their stores serve.
P.S. One of my (Galit’s) favorite things is to get friends and family the traditional cupcake-sized Bundt Cakes for birthdays and special occasions, decorated with Nothing Bundt Cake’s traditional wrapping, bow, and flower. It always brings a smile to my loved ones’ faces, which really means something to me! Highly recommend!
